Wire EDM Services
As a versatile manufacturer of precision components, at Decimal Engineering, Inc. we offer electrical discharge machining using wire EDM and hole popper EDM equipment. Electrical discharge machining, or EDM, is a unique machining method that relies on electrical charge, rather than mechanical abrasion, for material removal. In wire EDM, different wire diameters can be used to achieve the appropriate balance of precision and speed for a specific application. Exceptionally tight tolerances on the order of ±0.0002″ can be held with our wire EDM machines and holes between 0.020″ and 0.12″ can be accurately cut using our Mitsubishi hole popper. We operate wire EDM equipment with 4 axes of cutting ability, with a maximum taper of 17° at a 4″ material thickness.
Any conductive material can be machined via EDM, with hard metals greatly benefiting from electrical discharge machining. When precision tolerances on hard metal are required, EDM can offer significant advantages over traditional milling. Distortion or loss in material properties due to excess heat are eliminated, allowing for tighter tolerances to be held and preventing the need for post-machining heat treat. In addition, no custom tooling is required to create complex geometries, making EDM an attractive option for low quantity production.
As the needs of customers change, our engineers can provide guidance on the optimal manufacturing process, depending on part geometry, material, and production volume. Additional finishing, coating, and assembly services are available as needed. We are focused on building long-term business relationships with customers and are dedicated to providing services that add value to our core machining and fabrication capabilities.
