Custom Machining of a Servo Body for a Military Application

Servo Body

Servo Body

In the project highlighted here, a military customer in Melbourne, FL required extremely tight geometric tolerances, true positions, and complex features for the production of servo bodies. Each unit adhered to stringent material and machining requirements, including a serialization procedure that conformed to military grade standards. Using our Mori Seiki NT3150 9-axis Mill/Turn machine, we fabricated each servo body with a diameter of 8.263″ x 3/641″ at a tolerance of +/− 0.00019″ using 6061-T651 Aluminum that conformed to QQ-A-250/11F specifications. Each part was produced using a single machine setup, with inspection conducted via a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM). Upon completion, each servo body was anodized according to MIL-A-8625 requirements. Over the course of several months, 300 units were produced and shipped to the client.

At Decimal Engineering, we are ISO 9000:2008 compliant and had to adhere to several standards related to this project, including AS9100 quality management for Aerospace components, P.S. 806-1-1, and P.S. 806-3-20A. Our client was extremely pleased with the entire cycle of work – from project management to final quality control. Thanks to the dedication of our manufacturing and process engineers, our CNC programmers and operators, our client has committed to additional projects in the near future.
